Homes in TCEC service area restored following Winter Storm Jupiter

On Sunday, January 15, TCEC’s electric system was hit by winter storm Jupiter. Storm damages are well into the millions of dollars as the assessment continues. The ice wreaked havoc on trees, power poles and line, transformers and other equipment. TCEC reported nearly 7,000 outages at the height of the storm. Yesterday, crews restored power to those last few homes of members who were still without power. Several hundred other services remain without power.

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, a handful of homes and several hundred other services remain without power. Lineworkers from across Oklahoma and other states continue to work on TCEC’s restoration efforts. Crews have rebuilt almost 65 miles of line in 9 days.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, some members have been without power going on ten days. About 50 homes and several hundred other services remain without power. More than 250 additional lineworkers from across Oklahoma and other states continue to work on TCEC’s restoration efforts. As we work to restore power through the coming week it will be necessary to take frequent, periodic outages, especially in the Balko to Elmwood areas.

“We have made great progress and are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” said CEO Zac Perkins.

Annual power pole inspection underway in Elkhart area

TCEC contractor crews with Global Utility Services will be inspecting power poles for quality condition and stability for the next two to three weeks in the Elkhart, Kansas area. They are working a 15 mile-wide path south to west of Texhoma.

As of 9 a.m. Friday, January 20, we are entering day six since Winter Storm Jupiter hit. This has been a catastrophic event for TCEC. We have numerous miles of line on the ground and crews are working safely on restoration efforts. While some areas were hit harder than others, our entire system has taken a toll. We have over 150 lineworkers and contractors assisting with restoration efforts and the rebuilding of our system.

As of 9 a.m. Thursday, January 19, power has been restored to all the affected towns in our service territory. TCEC hopes to have residential members in rural areas of Beaver and Texas County who can receive power restored by January 28. It will be sooner for some members. However, if a member is in a particularly isolated location or has other extenuating circumstances, it may take longer.
